Show Reads Arc Instrcctirj Thcirjllea Fellow Prertcas ' - - Custca; Illsscuri 'Pacific: Oat.-' The question of supervising the loading load-ing of wtwl for the woolbuyers, which ' has been agitating the freight agents of the various railroads - who , handle the wool shipments from this section of the country, is virtually ' settled for the present at least. . , . - The railroads, with possibly a few exceptions, have concluded to handle the business this season! as they have In the past, and will load wool, that Is to say. they will supervise the weighing and billing of wool shipped , over their lines. The first positive Instructions to a local lo-cal agent on the subject were received by C. 8. Williams, contracting agen for the Chicago, Milwaukee & 8t Paul, today.- They instruct him to.,contlnue to look after the 'loading of wool shipments ship-ments this season, just as he has been accustomed to do. In view of the fact that one company will load wool, it is. the opinion that all of the - companies will do the same thing. The one road that has said positively ' that It will not load wool It the Missouri Mis-souri Pacific. Its local agents stand pat on a flat refusal. - If. one road . loads .wool and. another refuses to, -there is certain to be trouble grow out of the question, as the loading of wool will then be a concession and in conflict with the' Elkins bill, which has caused the controversy. . Shearing commenced yesterday In the southern part of the Bute, and a large number of buyers .have left for the camps at Blackrock. Tonight a delegation dele-gation of freight agents will go south, and there amon? the wool bags the first fight over the Elkins bill as to its effect on wool loading will be waged. It 'is the opinion of many of the railroad rail-road men that the ultimate outcome of the affair will be a test case in the courts, brought by the roads which refuse re-fuse to load wool against those which continue the practice, and they hold that until then the railroad men will be as much at sea as ever, as It is generally gener-ally supposed that both the Missouri Paciflo and the Chicago, Milwaukee & Bt. Paul are acting on legal opinions in the matter. |
