Show SECOND LANDSLIDE AT ASPEN TUNNEL Union Pacific Track Covered From Twenty-Fire to Fifty Feet Deep With Earth. EVANSTON,. Wyo.. April 14. A second sec-ond landslide occurred at Aspen tunnel, tun-nel, where the slide came down Sunday, yesterday. The second slide is of immense im-mense proportions, covering the track twenty-five to fifty feet deep for a distance dis-tance of 500 feet and as this portion Of the track is in a cut it effectively blocks up the way. At least 50,000 yards of dirt and rock now He in -the railroad cut and the end of the tunnel is badly caved in, so that no work of clearing the track can be done from that end. There are now 800 workmen and a steam shovel at work hauling away the dirt from the cut It is the Intention of the railroad company com-pany to transfer its fast mail trains around the slide: all other trains will run via Pocatello over the Short Line from Granger. Assistant Superintendent C. M. Ward and Trainmaster H. J. Roth are on the ground personally superintending the work. They state that there is no way a track can be built around the slide, and the only way of getting through is to haul every cubic foot of dirt away with construction trains. |
