Show Jhh Predict Ccrn a Cza. - . President Roosevelt is unquestionably a man of a superb order of courage, one who believes in taking tak-ing care of one's self. This is demonstrated daily by the President's policy of mingling with the crowds in the towns which he visits while on his Western trip. But those persons who believe that Roosevelt is subjecting himself to useless danger and would be at the mercy of any crank or anarchist who might attack him, are counting without their host. An incident that happened during the recent visit of. President Roosevelt to St Paul indicates that any anarchist who contemplates mixing up with the Chief Magistrate will find himself against a game which two can play. After the speaking at Minneapolis there was a rush for wraps, and by mistake mis-take Gov. Van Sant put on the President's coat. It did not seem to fit very, well, and the Governor put his hands in the pockets to adjust the garment. He was somewhat surprised to find in the right-hand pocket a revolver of large caliber, and was then certain cer-tain he had chosen the wrong coat. Meanwhile the President was struggling with a misfit coat nd an exchange was quickly effected. When the Governor remarked the presence of the "cannon," President Roosevelt only smiled and intimated that he expected expect-ed to do some hunting in Yellowstone park. lie did not, however, explain how he expected- to shoot mountain lions with a navy revolver. The. Presidential Presiden-tial gun is said to be of 44 caliber. Roosevelt knows how to use it and he is game to the core. Such a combination com-bination as this is a splendid safeguard against anarchists an-archists and cranks. These two types of assassins fight shy of the President who is handy with a gun. |
