Show Votiag Mcclisti. , The delay In counting the ballots cast in Salt Lake City and county at the recent election is a po-1 tent argument for reform in the voting system. The judges probably did the best'they conld but in many instances the task was too great for them. The present method of casting ballots will be completely changed within ten years, we believe, j The voting machine is coming into use and it has J been a success wherever tried. In one county in i Indiana where machines, were used for the first time j at the last election there was a saving of over $3000. The returns were completed in less time than ever before and 'the result was satisfactory in every re-epect. re-epect. In Chicago the precinct in which a machine was used was the first to report its returns. Those are but two instances. Scores could be given and all with the same bearing. Voting machines ma-chines are a success and they will be quickly adopted in all progressive communities. Utah should not lag behind the procession. A device that will reduce the expense of holding elections elec-tions and expedite the compiling of the returns is a good thing for the State to invest in. It would be an easy matter for the officials to ascertain the cost and the merits of the several machines on the market mar-ket and make preparations to install the best at as early a date as possible.
