Show TO PLACE UTAH'S ADVANTAGES BEFORE EASTERN PEOPLE; IDEA TAKES WELL The placing of the advantages of Utah and Salt Lake City as a place of residence and Investment Is the aim and object of the Salt Lake Real Estate Es-tate association, which Is now engaged In raising a fund of $1000 a month to this end. Independent of this, but thoroughly tho-roughly in harmony with the movement, move-ment, The Telegram has secured at Its own expense a page advertisement In the January number of Harper's Magazine, Maga-zine, setting forth these advantages in attractive form. The announcement of this plan in The Telegram Saturday created widespread local interest The plan has been indorsed and The Telegram Tele-gram commended on all hands. Below are statements by representative citizens citi-zens showing the interest and enthusiasm enthusi-asm manifested: MAYOR RICHARD P. MORRIS Your idea of advertising our great State Is not only unique, but by choosing such a medium as Harper's Magazine Maga-zine to bring the story of our" many and varied resources before the people peo-ple of this country, you have cer- . tainly adopted a plan that will be of Incalculable benefit to not only the State of Utah, but to this entire en-tire intermountain area, I heartily indorse the course of The Telegram and wish it all success In the enter- ' prise. JAMES H. MOYLE, lawyer The move is most commendable,, and will certainly cer-tainly result In much good to the city. The Telegram has certainly shown a progressive spirit and great interest in the city and State in which it is published. Its move In the matter of advertising should be an example to the other papers .-"I.". "' fh ciliins f-the city and State. It Is Just what is needed, need-ed, and deserves the appreciation and support of every citizen. The only trouble with the resources and attractions of this city and State Is that they are known to but a few. What they need Is advertising such "" as The Telegram has started. As a health resort Salt Lake City has no superior In the United States. What we need Is to let the advantages which we have to offer to the world be known, and the city will soon reach the 150,000 mark set by The Telegram. I wish the papec every success in its enterprising move. GOV.-ELECT JOHN C. CUTLER I am a strong believer in advertising, - and I think this move on the part of The Telegram is one of the best advertisements ad-vertisements yet given to the city and State. The paper is certainly to be congratulated on the progressive progress-ive spirit which It has shown in the matter of placing the advantages of this city before the people of this country. I indorse the statement of Secretary Fisher Harris of the Commercial club. GEORGE SUTHERLAND, attorney The Telegram's step in advertising Utah outside the State is a most excellent ex-cellent one, and The Telegram is to be commended for Its enterprise. Anything that will tend to advertise adver-tise Utah is helpful to the State. Anything that will properly advertise adver-tise the resources and possibilities of the State cannot help being beneficial. bene-ficial. It is an example that others who are interested in the development develop-ment of the State might well follow. fol-low. I believe thoroughly In advertising.- It helps ,the Individual business man and it goes without saying that It helps the State and the community to advertise its resources re-sources and wealth. I am glad to see this being done by The Tele- . gram and other enterprising busi- ness concerns. If all business concerns con-cerns and Interests would do the same thing, it would be a great thing for the State. S. V. SHELP, manager Walker Bros. Dry Goods company Anything of that kipd, anything to advertise the advantages of residence and lnvest-, lnvest-, ment, is what the newspapers should do. The newspaper element here acts and has acted, with the exception of The Telegram. as though. It were afraid they might do too much for the town. The Telegram's Tele-gram's is a progressive movement. More of it will build up the town. SENATOR THOMAS K EARNS: The Telegram's plan to advertise Salt Lake City and Utah In Harper's Magazine, is a capital idea and in line with twentieth century enterprise. enter-prise. I believe such a policy Is a wise one and also a public spirited one Municipal advertising i9 unquestionably un-questionably a good thing, and I hope that The Telegram's advertising advertis-ing of both State and city will prove beneficial. It may well be said "that every Institution located In a legitimate legiti-mate line of production; every family fam-ily brought into the territory; every farm improved, adds Just that. much to the business resources of the community com-munity by Increasing the productive and consumptive power of the people, peo-ple, and to that extent increasing the market." I have great faith in the future of Utah and I believe that if the people of the East are educated as to the splendid resources of this ' State, that homeseekers and investors inves-tors will be attracted to Utah. There is a great future In store for this State if we are wise and unite in welcoming strangers and giving them fair treatment. Salt Lake commands the intermountain country coun-try and with the three great railroads rail-roads that are coming it will show a remarkable growth during the next three years. Now is the time to set to work to push the city to the front. A. RICHTER, secretary and treasurer Salt Lake Real Estate association The Telegram has done the right thing more than any other paper has ever done or ever attempted to do. It's Just what the real estate men want and what they are working work-ing for. They are now about to inaugurate in-augurate a plan to advertise Salt Lake City extensively on the outside. out-side. While I believe it a good thing, it will serve to call the attention of local people to the fact that many of them are asleep. We must have outside capital to make this the city that It ought to be. The real estate men expect to spend $1000 a month outside of Utah in advertising our city. Business men are readily responding, re-sponding, save a few croakers. I. as secretary and treasurer of the Salt Lake Real Estate association, indorse the plan The Telegram Is pursuing, and I feel that the real estate men will freely reciprocate. . . . WILLIAM F. ADAMS, cashier National Nation-al Bank of the Republic I think The Telegram's method of advertising advertis-ing Salt Lake City is one of the most enterprising things ever done by a newspaper in this section of the country. Harper's Magazine is without doubt one of the finest monthly publications In the world, and the placing of an advertisement there shows the result of much discrimination. dis-crimination. It will reach the people peo-ple that can help SaU Lake. It Is a splendid Idea. L. H. FARNS WORTH, cashier Walker Bros.' bank The idea is unique. To me it is an entirely new one, and The Telegram is to be commended for its enterprise and spirit in breaking bonds and seeking a new field. Such advertising cannot but . help build up the city of Salt Lake. RALPH E. WELLS, general manager of the S. P., L. A. & S. L. railroad The Telegram is certainly pushing the advantages of the cltty. The advertisement of Salt Lake in Harper's Har-per's Magazine cannot but help Salt Lake City. The advantages as set forth In the copy of the "ad" are told clearly and lucidly, and the Idea Is so unique that It is bound to attract. It is splendid. DANIEL S. SPENCER, assistant general gen-eral passenger agent Oregon Short Line All that is necessary to boom Salt Lake is to attract attention to . its splendid resources, and The Telegram Tel-egram has struck the right Idea. It is excellent, and Is bound to produce results. The Telegram has shown a commendable enterprise In this innovation. |
