Show ll , ' .. j 7 11 i . . . , 1-: ' ' "jj One doesn't look for many new features fea-tures in a m!n?trl show .this late in the fc.y m, but the Barlow company, which opened at the Grand last night, came out with enough new jokes and variations varia-tions cf old ones to make an acceptable performance. The first part was supe- rior to any similar show seen at the Grand this season, while the olio was made up of both good and bad things. The Roman ax jugglers, Varian and Turenne, gave a thrilling exhibition and the Kates brothers proved exceptional ; acrobats. Charles W. Milton found all of his old friends waiting eagerly for his "end" etunt, and the arplause accorded ac-corded him was of the kind seldom given to minstrel men. ' The Fingers gave a pleasing rendition of all the popular songs, and ended wfth I a burlesque on 4 1 Sing a Little Tenor," which fairly captured the house., A medley of everything popular and ' 1 everything unpopular that has been sung during a half century was given In such a thoroughly mlxed-up style : that the audience kept the applause go-." go-." ing merrily while the song was sung. i J. A. Cqburn, manager of the Barlow y minstrels, gave a cornet solo that was i remindful of Iiy Henry, and Charles W. 0 Milton came back with a monologue of rare "bon mots." The Grand was Si packed, and the audience left well ' ' pleased. The engagement Is for the first ) half of the week. , ; "Lover's Lane," of which Clyde Fitch is author,' will open at the Salt Lake Theater tonight The seat sale has been heavy, and a large "first night" audi-'- enqe Is expected. "Lover's Lane" was first produced by Amelia Bingham.- It Is a rural drama with Fitch characters, . and theater-goers remembering some of ? Fitch's character paintings in other lines, will be anxious to see his version ' of the village people. The engagement ' Includes tomorrow night, with a mati-'i mati-'i nee in the afternoon. ',' The concert of the Colorado Glee and ; Mandolin clubs at Barratt hall last i night was attended by many students of the University of Utah and the L. D. S. U. To those who enjoy rousing college songs the programme was a treat, and the applause Indicated that the students in front were in close sym- " patby with those on the stage.
