Show DR.PADEN A WITNESS Pastor of First Presby-"terian Presby-"terian Church Closeted With Grand Jury. The grand Jury convened at 10:10 o'clock this morning. The first witness called was the Rev. William M! Paden, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, who resides re-sides at 207 E. Second South street. He went Into the Jury room about 10:15 and was detained about one hour. He lives at 283 East Seventh South. It is supposed that Mr. Duncan testified tes-tified In connection with the Judge Tanner polygamy case, as he said he knew all the Tanners from the grandfather, grand-father, who came to Utah as a pioneer, pio-neer, down to his last son and some of his jjrandsons. Mrs. George A. Wake was also summoned. sum-moned. As the result of the recent arrest of a negro on a charge of felony the attention at-tention of the grand Jury has been called to the alleged depravity and vice existln? In certain districts of the elty, and it is understood that that body will take up the investigation of alleged conditions at once, It Is understood that a negre saloonkeeper saloon-keeper will be called upon to explain certain conditions that are alleged to exist in his establishment. Habits of life among the residents of some district are also understood to be on the programme for a probing. This will probably be the last line that the Jury will take up. |
