Show PROPOSED CALL FOR EXTRA SESSION. THE TELEGRAM made a suggestion yesterday that the best reply of Gov. Cutler to the petitions asking that a special session of the Legislature be called, would be to request the party machinery in every county to take ud the Question when the con- ventions meet, and give an expression as to whether they want an extra session or not. We expressed the belief that the proposition for the call of an extra session was not honest, that ulterior ulte-rior motives were prompting the request. This seenu' more and more probable as we consider that the petitions pe-titions ask for the session in August. August is the busiest time of the year in all of the country regions of Utah. What is the great haste that should bring the solons into a heated session in August T , If the call were for the last of November it would not look so bad. - " We do not believe that the signers are dishonest, but that the men who proposed the business are. That they have a purpose altogether outside of considering con-sidering the question of merging the two big schools. We think the real purpose is to get a Legislature here that will so adjust things as to try to neutralize the best efforts of the party in power in the coming election. ' We shall keep thinking that way until we see something to cause us to change our mind. Gov. Cutler is a square man, but he is not up to . all the tricks of politicians. He might honestly respond re-spond to the petitions wifhout seeing that there was an African, large-sized, in that woodpile and never drop on the real purpose of the call until it was too late. Better leave it to the counties. Let the Republicans Republi-cans and Democrats in each county, when they meet in convention, consider the matter and frame resolutions reso-lutions for or against the proposition of an extra session. |
