Show VIOLATION OP EIGHT-HOUR LAW Charged Aain$t Showell Bros, a Belcher, Street-Paving Street-Paving Sub-Contractors, by Labor Wen. A complaint was Issued from the County Coun-ty 'Attorney's office at noon today against Showell Bros, eY Belcher, sub-contractora-on street paving, working on East Second Sec-ond South street, charging them with violating vio-lating the eight-hour law. The complaint was sworn to by J. N. Spauldlog and Daniel L Evans, representing represent-ing the labor unions, and is based on chapter 98 of the sUtutes of 1903. which prohibits the employment of laborers on public works for longer than eight hours in one day, except in cases of emergency, where life or property might be endangered. endan-gered. It is charged in the complaint that from July 23 to July 28 Showell Bros, ft Belcher Belch-er have dally violated the eight-hour law. and that they have violated this law at other times and places. Other contractors on city work, it 1 claimed, have complained . against the Showell firm. It Is claimed that other contractors are observing the law, and that the actions of the Showell firm place them at a-dlsadvantage. A warrant was taken out against Showell Show-ell Bros. A Belcher, which will be served this afternoon. |
