Show With a short address , by Gov. John C. Cutler, the formal opeaiag of tha eighth annnaT exhibition" of painting and sculpture by the Utah Art Institute Insti-tute took place at Social hall in State street last evening. The exhibition this year is one of the finest exhibits of Utah art that has ever been shown. Many new pictures have been added to the collections of local artists and are placed on exhibition. Ia all there are about 100 paintings hong on the walls. The exhibit also includes woodwork, bronzes, plaster casta, architectural drawings and china paintings. Work of Local Artist. Many of the paints of local, artists which nave attracted attention abroad are hung in the exhibit. The work of such artists as A. B. Wright, Lee Greene Richards, J. T. Harwood, J. Leo Fairbanks Fair-banks and 1L IL Young is attracting considerable attention. The Utah artists have done some great work this year, and many of their new pieces or art promise to beat their old work, whu-Ji is always brought on: for exhibition purposes. Governor Is Complimentary. ' In his address Gov. Cutler complimented compli-mented the artists of Utah who have pushed their way to' the front and forced recognition: A brief address was given by John Eafen, president of the institute. J, Leo Fairbanks is the secretary. The institute will be open from 2 to 10 o'clock at night for the next two weeks. No admission is charged. |
