Show REVIVAL Of ANTIMONY TUNING IN UTAH; HN OLD CAMP TARES NEW LIFE tMRastM.aaeaiiaMMaBM v Bishop Culbert L. King of Coyote, Garfield county, who is visiting in . the city several days, brings up news from the south of vast development projects and preparations going on . among the antimony mines at Antimony, Garfield county. The old camp, which has been slumbering, for years, is experiencing a revival that is stirring the people throughout that section of the country. Two concentrating plants by. different differ-ent companies have been projected and the buildings started; the deposits are being opened up in preparation for mining mi-ning operations on a large scale at an early date; a town of considerable proportions pro-portions is being laid off and houses are being built in expectation of a large population that is bound to swarm onto the scene soon." Will Work 100 Men. - When Mr. King left for Salt Lake the two companies that occupy the territory ter-ritory in that region seemed to be running run-ning a race to determine which was to complete its plant for operation first. Clawson ft Romney, a new firm that has entered the territory recently and is seizing all the nnlocated. grounds,, is now engaged in breaking the ground for its mill site and is engaged in digging dig-ging a (nal a half mile long to convey the water to its mill. The. lumber has already been contracted for, and . ten teams have been employed to do the hauling. The machinery for the mill has been ordered and will soon reach Marvsvale. Altogether the new company com-pany will have increased its force to 100 men in a short time, and expects to have its mill ready for operation before be-fore the severe winter weather begins. To Work Old Ground. Scarcely behind the new company is the crowd of capitalists who are holding hold-ing the old patented, high-grade ground. This is a Montana company. Members arrived on the "grpund November No-vember 10. and active preparations are going forward to the completion of a fifty-ton concentrating plant at the earliest possible date. It is the intention inten-tion of the company to enlarge this plant from this modest beginning as fast as circumstances will permit to an enterprise commensurate with the wonderful won-derful possibilities of the company's grounds. In preparation for a construction construc-tion force capable of rushing the work to atT early completion bnnkhouses and private dwelling-houses are being erected erect-ed for the accommodation of the construction con-struction force, and later of the miners and . millmen who will constitute the operating force of the company. The question of transporting the ore from the mine to the mills is being fully considered, con-sidered, and '$500 is being put into a roadway for this purpose. Town Being Laid Ont. So sanguine are the people of the vicinity vi-cinity of the future of the camn that a city is being laid off in a picturesque level spot, in the bottom of the canyon, and as soon as materials tan be scoured j a town of no mean importance will be in process of erection. Two things hsrve conspired to brin about the revival and reawakening of the old tamp at Antimony the remarkable remarka-ble rise in the price of antimony and the recent discovery of a cheap and profitable way to work up low-grade antimonv ore. This process was' recently recent-ly tested in Salt Lake and proved capable capa-ble of working a revolution in antimony anti-mony mining. Trying New Process. Clawson & Roinney ar employing this process in the southern camp. Its introduction there has opened up possibilities possi-bilities of a startling nature. Vast bodies of ore that were formerly thought worthless have been suddenly reclaimed to industry and commerce. The low-grade areas of antimony in this district seem almost inexhaustible. Hills of common-lookin red and yellow yel-low clay have proved to be highly productive pro-ductive and profitable areas under this process. Clawson ft Romney are purchasing pur-chasing and filing upon all this kind of ground that circumstances will permit. It is to these great low-grade areas that the people of the camp turn with the greatest degree of confidenco for prosperity and permanence. 8-ipments Formerly Made. The old company, which bolls the grounds from which antiniouy was mined ' twenty years ago. has been sending comparative' small shipments of ore to San Francisco, whih represented repre-sented the only activity of a camp which had been dead for many years. The advance of the price of antimony caused a revival, and now devriopmcnts are bringing to light tho fat that the deposits are much larger than any one had ever suspected before. Greatest In World. Experts classify the deposits at this point as the greatest in the world, and it is the belief of those interested in the development of Antimony that this camp is destined to be one of th liveliest live-liest in the State. The gTeat antimony rtiiues of the past have become exhausted, exhaust-ed, and this district in Utah promises to march to tho front as a busy center of activity. Country Prosperous. Bishop King reports that section of Utah in the most prosperous condition for twenty years. The recent seasons have been wet ones, with the result that there has been a surplus of water for irrigation, and the -tittle and sheep range is the best it has been for many years. For the first time in ten or twenty years fat cattle are being taken ta-ken from the range. So plentiful was water during tho present year that the great ' reservoir ' near Coyote was not emptied. Crops are the best for many years, with the exception that excessive rains have injured wheat and oats. Creameries have been established all over that section of the corntry, almost all families having separators of their own. Tbeso are the means of distribnt-. ing money generally where formerly currencv was scarcely known. |
