Show NO APPROPRIATION . TO IMPROVE FORT Chairman Edward F. Colborn of the Salt Lake Real Estate association is in receipt of letters from Senator George Sutherland and Congressman Joseph Howell In relation to improvements improve-ments at Fort Douglas. v Senator Sutherland states that as far as he has been able to find out no appropriation ap-propriation has been made for the Improvement Im-provement of the fort. That while the estimate ror a general scheme of Improvement Im-provement at Fort Douglas fixed the amount required at something over a million, no appropriation to carry the scheme Into execution was ever made. He adds that the Improvements that have been under the Immediate direction direc-tion of tho Quartermaster-General, and are not Included in the plans of the general staff. These Improvements have been discontinued for the present for the reason that the appropriation has been exhausted. Senator Sutherland Suther-land assured Mr. Colborn that a liberal lib-eral appropriation for the improvement of the fort will be made for 1906-OT. Congressman Howell writes that he and Senator Smootave made two calls at the War department and have urged that funds be appropriated for the Improvement Im-provement of Fort Douglas. The Secretary Sec-retary of War has promised to give the matter his early attention. Continuing Mr. Howell says: "I can assure you that there Is no disposition on the part of .the dfPxtment to discriminate against Fort Douglas, but that It will receive its full share of attention along with other military posts." |
