Show DIFFERENCES ON RATE BILL END Senate; Committee Set-; Set-; ties Legal Questions in. an Amendment. WASHINGTON, D. C- May 4. What amounts - practically "to an agreement on the existing differences concerning court features of the rate bill has been reached, by the Senate conference extending ex-tending over the last week, and Senator Allison will offer an amendment conferring con-ferring Jurisdiction ' upon the Circuit courts to hearand determine suits brought .'against the""interstate Com-merce Com-merce commission. The amendment will not suegest -to the court whether their. Judicial review shall be confined to external questions, or whether it shall be an Inquiry Into the Justness or reasonableness of the rates fixed by the commission. Senator Long,., who made the principal prin-cipal legal argument for the House bills, and Senators Aldrlch and Crane, the leaders in the movement seeking an amendment providing for a broad court review, expressed themselves today as favoring the amendment, and both factions fac-tions are agreed that the compromise is satisfactory to the President. Undoubtedly this means that obstacles obsta-cles to the speedy passage of the measure meas-ure have been removed. |
