Show ROOT AND FOGLER WIN SIX-DAY RACE NEW YORK, Dec 1L Eddie Root and Joseph Fogler, the New York team, won the six-day race in Madison Square Garden Gar-den after covering 2260 miles and six laps, the finish, shortly after 10 o'clock Saturday Satur-day night, being witnessed by a crowd of 25.000 persons- John and Menus Bedell, the Long Island team, were awarded second sec-ond place, Mac Lean and Moran of Boston Bos-ton were third, Vanderstuyft and Stol fourth. Hopper and Holllster fifth. Downing Down-ing and Bowler sixth, Logan and Downey Dow-ney seventh and Galvin and McDonald eighth. There were seven capital prises ranging from $1500 to the winners down to t2uo for the seventh team. Special prises distributed among the riders brought the aggregate of prise money considerably above foOUO. Downing and Holllster, of the teams tied in fifth place, furnished an exciting close to the contest. They rode slowly about tbe bowl-like track until near the finish, when both started to sprint. At the height of the rush Downing' s wheel slipped from beneath him and he had a bad fall. . This enabled Holllster to win easily. Matt Downey of Boston, who hitherto has been an amateur, was awarded a special spe-cial prise of JoO for his clever riding, having led In most of the sprints and having been in front during the greatest number of laps.
