District Attorney Attor-ney Jerome will today take up the matter mat-ter of Thomas P. Ryan's refusal to answer an-swer the questions of the insurance investigating in-vestigating committee relative to E. H. Harrlman's effort to participate in the purchase of the majority stock of the Equitable Life from James H. Hyde. " There are only fourteen days left for the legislative committee to complete the taking of testimony, and It has been decided to eliminate from the Inquiry all the Insurance companies outside the State of New York with the exception of the Prudential of Newark. N. J., which does a large industrial insurance business. . Seven of the smaller companies .doing business under the New York State laws will be ordered to have their prin-pal prin-pal offices ready for examination. Among these is the Provident Savings Life. Mr. Scott, Its president, and several sev-eral of its minor officers and employees have already been subpoenaed. Regarding the rumor that Charles E. Hughes, chief counsel for the insurance committee, has been suggested as president pres-ident of the Mutual, no member of the company's nominating committee would talk yesterday. There will be no meeting meet-ing of the nominating committee today. |
