Show imp icura tm m ..---.-.. A great exposition Is planned for Salt Lake City during the summer of 190T. The plan Is being promoted by the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Manufactur-ing society. The proposition as outlined out-lined by the society is to invite the con-operation con-operation of Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, Neva-da, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon Ore-gon and California. The fair will be opened August 1, during the time when the greatest amount of tourist travel is passing through, and the . doors kept open until October 1. Co-operation "Will Be Sought. The Utah Legislature is to be asked at Its next session, which meets in January. Jan-uary. 1907. to appropriate $50,000 or more as a nucleus for the fair. Special commissioners are to be sent to the States named above to induce co-operation on the part of those States and to secure liberal appropriations' for., the erection of "appropriate buildings. ; No Stat Pair Next Tear. ; The above announcement follows the decision of the State fair authorities to hold no fair next year, but instead tfi exert every energy in planning for a show the following year that will be a credit to the intermountain region. . The magnitude of the proposed exposition expo-sition U appreciated by President J. G. McDonald. Director Lester D. Freed and other State fair officials who have the matter under consideration. They feel sure of the support of the entire population of the State. No doubt la expressed of the Legislature appropriating appropri-ating the sum named above or even more, in view of the fact that for the St. Louis exposition J60.000 was expended expend-ed and for the Portland fair 130,000 was appropriated. Another thing is that the Legislature Is accustomed to appropriate appro-priate $15,000 biennially for the State fair. Large Pond to Be Raised. In addition it is expected that public spirited citizens will contribute at least 125,000 toward the exposition. The directors di-rectors will not stop at this. They will seek funds from every channel, for a large fund will' be needed and the larger the amount expended- the larger the eventual return. It Is pointed out that during the two months of the fair not less than 300,000 visitors will pass through the gates of Salt Lake and that each of these visitors vis-itors will leave an average of $10. It is easy to figure this will amount to $?,-000.000. $?,-000.000. Railroad Co-operation. The hearty co-operation of the railroads rail-roads will undoubtedly be given. They .will give low rates and a prosperous exposition. ex-position. Every member of the Deseret Agricultural Agri-cultural and Maufacturingr society is heartily in favor of the project, and it will be pushed to the limit in every way possible. Meeting to Discuss Flans. During the coming week a meeting of the society will be held at which the preliminary plans of the proposed exposition expo-sition will be discussed. Included in the plans is the proposition to employ a man who thoroughly understands the fair business. The idea is to confer with such a person, lay before him the resources available and from these data arrive at a definite conclusion. |
