Show PUMPKINS GROWING ON BIO WALNUT TRUE. LOS ANGELES. Cal., Dec. 1L Six fully developed and fully ripened pumpkins growing on a tree is the latest freak of nature produced In Los Angeles. Mrs. S. Hedges of No. 725 Eaat Twenty-fifth Twenty-fifth street, la the proud possessor of the tree and the crop of pumpkins hanging from It. The fact that It Is a dead tree adds to the curiosity of the sight. In reality the pumpkins are growing on the vine -to which nature has trained them. But instead of the vine creeping over the ground, as Is usual. It clings to a dead wplnut tree. Mrs. Hedges was seized one dav with the idea that the pumpkin vine could be trained to creep up the trunk of a tree as well as any other kind of a vine. The experiment acted so well that the plant crept up the stem of the dead tree and along one of the boughs. It now presents the appearance of a tree bearing a fine crop of well-developed fruit |
