Show NO TRIAL DATES SET Government Awaits Outcome Out-come of Plea of Senator Sena-tor Mitchell. PORTLAND, Or., April 20. With the arraignment of State Senator George C. Brownell of Oregon City on next Friday, Fri-day, all the more prominent persons Indicted In-dicted for complicity in the land fraud cures In this State will have pleaded. It is the expectation of United States District Attorney Francis J. Heney to return to San Francisco on that day, to remain for several weeks or until such time as the first case is set for trial. . Mr. Heney's plans, however, are based on the presumption that the finding of the United States court in regard to United States Senator Mitchell's plea in abatement will be In favor of the Government and against the quashing of the Indictments. In case the Government wins its point it Is the present understanding that all the land fraud cases will be pressed to early trial. The date of none of' them has been set, and will not be until it is known Iositlvely when the new federal building build-ing i3 to be ready for occupation by the court. While it Is not known which of the cases will be tried first. It Is believed be-lieved that it will be the one against Senator Mitchell in which he entered th3 plea In abatement. This is the case in which it Is charged that Senator Mitchell accepted money for practicing before a Government department while an official of the Government in a case in which the Government was directly interested. It is better known as the Krlbs case. |
