Show BENEFITS OF MANUFACTURES' ASSOCIATION. The formation of a Manufacturers' association in Salt Lake is a good sign. It is the culmination of what The Telegram has urged ver since it was established. It is a "getting together" for the mutual mu-tual good. It means an earnest effort to promote industrial enterprise enter-prise in Salt Lake. The organization of a strong and enthusiastic Manufacturers' as- . ' sociation will exercise a good influence and be felt in more ways than ' me. The prime purpose announced, to encourage the use of homemade home-made products where such products are equal in quality to the for- e?gn made goods, is a shibboleth around which all can unite. A campaign cam-paign of education along this line cannot fail to bring good results, llesides, it places Salt Lake manufacturers on their mettle to produce pro-duce better goods than can be obtained elsewhere. When the Halt Iake stamp is known as an emblem of honesty, it will place the Salt Lake market above par. When Salt Lake consumers stand by Salt Lake manufacturers, the latter will be able to make better goods. An established reputation at home will help to extend the sale of Salt Lake goods in other places. When Salt Lake manufacturers welcome the coming of other "men who make things,' it shows a broad spirit. It also benefits the general community. The location of new factories not only adds to the scope of the market, but it also provides more opportunities for labor and the accumulation of wealth. Comjietition sharpens the dge of trade and benefits the already established enterprise. Xot the least benefit to be derived from the new association is ; the securing of fairer and more equitable freight rates. When the i) united shippers of the community can show the railroads where there I is discrimination or injustice, the railroads will quickly take steps to re medy the evil. i The keynote of the whole movement, however, is co-operation. i (Jetting tpgether in such an organization, the manufacturers can better bet-ter understand each other and by counseling together do that which is right and best for the community. In benefiting themselves, they benefit the community at large. What is said of Salt Lake manufacturers applies with equal force to the manufacturers of the whole State of Utah, and it is hoped the association will include among its membership not alone those who operate in the capital city, but all within the borders of the State should be invited to participate. The interests of Salt Lake and the State of Utah are the same. The growth of any industry in any part of the State benefits Salt Lake, as the prosperity of Salt Lake will benefit all parts of the State. |
