J Cecil Alter chief of the local weather bureau the storm was in form and was caused by the extremely high temperature which created a mass of hot air nir that thai rushed upward and started whirling with such velocity that it blew down large larce arge trees and electric wires and damaged several roofs At its height the wind reached a speed of 43 miles an hour which according according ac ae ac- ac cording to Mr Alter equals all previous previous previous pre pre- records for local wind velocity The first gale which was the stronger strong strong- er er began shortly after 3 p. p m. m and was followed by n a lesser wind one one- halt half hour later Several hundred dollars damage resulted re reo re- re suited when the wind blew half hult the roof off the Wiltshire Arms apartments apart apart- ments meats First avenue Chun Chunks of cement and other debris were blown I into the street severing telephone and power lines No one was injured Damage to trees in Liberty park and in the city and county building grounds was estimated at more than by City Commissioner Harry L L. Finch Two trees on the West high school grounds were uprooted and carried electric wires with them in their descent A large tree fell on the parked automobile au automobile RU- RU of F F. H.
