Show Hunting Is Good This Year, Reports Say - According to reports, this year's deer hunting is especially good, with many deer being taken from areas in the nearby canyons. After the cold snowstorm previous prev-ious to the hunt's opening, deer began to come lower down on the mountains, thus enabling hunters to get in on more kills. The clear, warm weather which followed gave impetus to thousands of hunters Monday following the opening and the percentage of kill has climbed rapidly. Reports as to the actual number of deer taken tak-en from surrounding stations were not available at this writing and will be released as soon as they are compiled. Arrests Made ... Chief Deputy Warden G. W. Reid announced that eighteen arrests ar-rests were made during the open- ing days of the hunt. Fifteen of the arrests were for "failure to properly tag deer." The other three were for killing elk. "We are not fooling on this tagging regulation. There is no excuse for not tagging animals, since everyone ev-eryone has had ample opportunity to acquaint themselves with the state law in this respect," Reid stated. One particular thing that was noted this year was the large number of big deer taken. "Hunting "Hunt-ing for the opening days was good everywhere," according to a state official's report. The one thing that marred Utah's shoot was the rapidly mounting toll of fatalities through gun accidents. Game officials of-ficials were shocked by the mishaps, mis-haps, pointing out' that every means was made to avoid such accidents, prior to the opening. "It is up to every individual to pay heed to those warnings." |
