Show FARMERS WARNED ON USE OF SULFUR ON SOIL Reports are coming in to the office of-fice of the county agent that some Utah county farmers are buying sulfur fertilizers with the hope of improving their soil, according to an announcement made today by S. R. Boswell, Utah county agent. The Utah Experiment Station reports that their workers have conducted experiments at Logan for years and that none of the field trials have shown enough response re-sponse from the application of sulfur sul-fur fertilizer to justify its use. Sulfur is one of the essential elements of plant growth, but the soils of Utah contain it in sufficient suffic-ient quantities to provide for normal nor-mal plant nutrition. Sulfur is of some value when applied ap-plied to our black alkali soil and even then it is beneficial only when there is lime in the soil and where drainage can be established. Under these conditions, several applications of sulfur at the rate of 1,500 pounds an application or more per acre would be required to bring about a lasting improvement. improve-ment. Farmers are invited to' come in to the county agent's office to discuss dis-cuss fertilizer problems, Mr. Boswell Bos-well said. |
