Show MARRIED 50 YEARS ... . , '') . j t 1 ' - - .if - '.V . i ' 3 . V jkv;- ' 1 r MR. AND MRS. MARTIN W. BIRD Honoring Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Bird on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, a reception will he given next Monday evening, October 27, from 7 until 10 p. m., at their residence, 171 North Main, to which relatives and friends are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Bird were both born in Springville. They were married October 27, 1897, in the Salt Lake temple. Mr. Bird, a son of the early settlers, Martin W. and Harriet Adelaide Huntington Bird, was born September 1, 1873. He attended public schools here until the death of his father in January, 1890, when he began work with Anderson An-derson and Crandall, photographers. In 1891, he began work with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, and was advanced through the years from messenger boy to telegraph clerk, agent and supervisory agent, holding the latter position 14 years. During the time he worked at Bingham, Eureka, Springville and Provo, until his retirement retire-ment in 1943. The year of his retirement he began working work-ing at Geneva in the traffic department and continued there until after the war. Active in church affairs of this city, he has served as T1 presicIent of tIle EIders quorum, president of the Y. M. M. I. A. in his ward, and secretary and counselor in the stake Y. M. M. I. A. For three years he was counselor coun-selor to Bishop Peter Nielson, and is now secretary of the Ihird ward quorum of High Priests. Mr. Bird has also taken prominent part in Boy Scout work in various capacities for the past 20 years. He is at present a member of the Third ward troop committee, and a national representative in Utah National Parks Council. A charter member and past president of the Spring- ville Kiwanis club, he has served also on the board of education edu-cation Jyoth in the Springville school district, and after consolidation con-solidation on Nebo school board, from 1911 to 1923. He TS?-a memter of Springville city council from 1925 to 1927. 1Q7oMrS-,Ma,ry Gr?eeck Bird was born on August 7, 1873 a daughter of Nicholas H. and Rhoda Sanderson Groesbeck pioneers of Springville. She attended public schools in this city and also the Brigham Young university, rovo bhe has taken active part in church work, having served as first counselor in the Third ward Y.WM1A and also as secretary and teacher in the Relief Society organization or-ganization of the Third ward. She has been affiliated with the Home Culture club for many years, and is also a past president ot the organization.
