Show FARMING TO BE MADE EASIER REPORTS INDICATE The day of "push-button farming" farm-ing" doesn't seem too far off to American manufacturers! On the drafting boards of many a plant today, and in some instances actually ac-tually in the testing stage if not in full production, are new implements imple-ments which are one-man operated, oper-ated, yet accomplish the normal day's work of half a dozen farm hands. Implement makers are now moving to simplify the operation of their heaviest new equipment. Hydraulic touch-controls are appearing ap-pearing on one manufacturer's tractors and mammoth self-propelled combines, enabling the farmer to till and harvest more acres with remarkably less exer- tion than ever before. Another manufacturer is stressing stress-ing tools for the smaller farms a "cub" tractor designed for farms of 40 acres and under, appealing to the -garden farmer, and as an auxiliary tractor on larger acreage. acre-age. Orders have poured in, requiring re-quiring two or three years of production pro-duction to fill. . Coming up also is a mechanical beet harvester that whisks off leaves, yanks the beet from the j ground and deposits it on a truck dr conveyor belt; a self-propelled combine which scoops up and bales windrowed hay in one operation; oper-ation; a one-man hay baler which accomplishes the work of three farm hands. Scheduled to reach the farm market this fall is a one-row corn picker, developed for 40 to 80-acre farms. The picker is designed to standardize costs on the smaller farm and to pick from six to 12 acres of corn daily. , Still another leading farm implement im-plement maker emphasizes hydraulic hy-draulic touch controlled equipment in his post-war line. The company's com-pany's heavy duty, 3-4 plow tractor trac-tor is now in production, and is designed to utilize a variety of labor-saving hydraulic - controlled implements. The cruise began from San Diego in February, when the Moale joined West Coast forces to participate in fleet war games. After arriving in Pearl Harbor, she was attached to her present task force and departed for Australia Aus-tralia in May. |
