Show - - - V 7 7 " iT i Springville Is Assured Armory Building City To Be Headquarters For Engineers Battalion Local Man Summoned To Salt Lake City To Be Made Commanding Officer of the New Combat Engineer Unit Soon To Be Installed Early this week General Wallace West called by telephone from Salt Lake City to J. Y. Bearnson, asking that Max Alleman, a former captain in the army, be sent to $Salt Lake City to gain federal recognition in order to become the commanding officer of the new combat engineer unit, which is soon to be installed in Springville. Springville is to be the headquarters head-quarters for the battalion of Engineers En-gineers as well as the location for the Hq. Co. The location of the other companies are not a certainty, certain-ty, but will probably be in the near vicinity, it is pointed out. For the past year a general committee from the chamber of commerce, with J. Y. Bearnson as chairman, together with Dave Friel, Maurice Anderson and J. A. Miller, executive secretary, has been working along with Mayor Glen W. Sumsion and his council-men, council-men, as well as other city representatives repre-sentatives and members from the various civic organizations of the city, to bring the unit to Springville. Spring-ville. It is further pointed out that land has been purchased by Springville city just east of the ball park, for the location of the ' new armory. The property at this site has already been deeded over to the Utah State National Guard board, and' General West reported this week that the architect's plans for a building are now in Washington, D. C, for approval by the General Guard Bureau. The building plans call for a brick structure 100 feet long and 72 feet wide, and assurance has been given by General West that Springville will be one of the first cities to receive an armory when funds become available. |
