Show HENRY WEIGHT NOMINATED FOR GAME POST Local Sportsman Is One of Two Candidates Nominated For Post At State Wildlife Meet Henry Weight, outstanding I sportsman-hunter and president of the 11 Western States group, was nominated, along with Tom Argyle of Woods Cross, to fill the vacancy on the state big game board, created cre-ated by the death of Cliff Huss of Ogden. The two were chosen from a group of five at the annual Wildlife confab held in Salt Lake City during the past week end. Selection of one of the two men by the governor to fill the vacancy, vacan-cy, will be made in the near future. Numerous problems and discussions discus-sions came before the group besides be-sides the game board problem. After heated debates, it was decided de-cided that a raise in non-resident license fees was in order, but rebelled re-belled at boosting resident fees. Other matters on the agenda included in-cluded resolutions to . . . (1) Oppose efforts of private interests in-terests to acquire title or vested use of public lands; (2) called for introduction into the U. S. Senate a bill to authorize construction of the Deweyville Dam; (3) called for the purchase of a section of land in Northwest Box Elder county; (4) asked for re-establishment of the fish and game commission com-mission under a director to be appointed ap-pointed by the state senate president; presi-dent; (5) opposed transfer of fish and game funds to any other department de-partment of government, or for any other purpose; (6) called for better handling of special deer and elk hunts, and (7) ask for release of Pittman-Robertson funds. Legislative Proposals ... Discussions on legislative proposals propo-sals included: A motion that employes of the state department of fish and game be put on civil service rating, the measure to go before a referendum vote. A motion that hunting, fishing and trapping rights be retained on public-owned lands which are sold, or leased to private interests. That the present game enforcement enforce-ment law be amended to authorize the issuance of tickets to violators, necessitating the offender's appearance ap-pearance within five days before a regular state or a municipal judge. A law to permit the fish and game department to make it a misdemeanor to have dead or live trash fish, with the exception of cured or canned fish, around trash fish free waters. Making it mandatory that hunters hunt-ers check in and out of checking stations on special hunts. To authorize the use of metal deer tags instead of paper ones. Suggested an icrease in the fee of non-resident licenses, the amount of raise to be determined by the fee charge in neighboring states. |
