Show Winterizing' Homes Cuts Fuel Costs, Saves Heat The savings in fuel costs that resulted from the "winterizing" "winter-izing" of homes as a patriotic duty during the war were so substantial that more and more owners each year are insulating insulat-ing their houses properly in order to keep the heat in and the cold out. $ Most builders say that the first step to take is an examination of the roof to be sure it is sound and free from potential leaks. Where leaks or roof weakness are found, they recommend complete re-roofing re-roofing with weather-tight and fire-resistant materials, such as asphalt shingles. Usually the shingles shin-gles can be nailed over the old roof to give added insulation. Comfort as well as economy in heating costs can be further assured as-sured by weather-stripping all doors and windows and the use of storm sash; insulation of attic floor and roof, and all walls wherever possible; sealing off unused un-used parts of the house in the winter months; and keeping heating heat-ing equipment in perfect repair. |
