Show NEW LIGHT BULBS ON MARKET SOON A new type of electric light bulb which promises to revolutionize the use of portable lamps and double the amount of useful light distributed by them, as well as provide added reading comfort, was announced here today by B. K. Wickstrum, sales manager of the Lighting Division of Sylvania Electric Products, Inc., at the formal for-mal opening of the remodeled rooms of the Sylvania Lighting Center. Every portable floor and table lamp can be made an indirect lighting unit by replacing the conventional globe - shaped bulb with the new -Sylvania 200-watt Indirect Bolite bulb, according to Mr. Wickstrum. Moreover, because be-cause the new bulb provides its own diffusion, the need for bulky and heavy diffusing bowls used with some present indirect type lamps will be eliminated. Designed so that it screws into the stocket with the bulb facing upward, the new indirect bulb utilizes two distinct types of diffusing processes. The top, or flat end, of the bulb is frosted to furnish upward diffusion without too much loss of light, while the lower portion of the bulb has an opalescent coating to provide greater diffusion of the light falling fall-ing onto reading or work surfaces, thus eliminating uncomfortable brightness contrast in the room. The result is both direct and indirect in-direct lighting from the same bulb without the use of supplementary equipment. The new Indirect Bolite bulb will be sold with the special wire lamp shade supports which can be u.sed to adapt existing lamps. These adaptors will be available in several stylos designed to fit any type of table or floor lamp. |
