Show ANTI - RELIGIOUS IDEAS TO THEM." Earl- Browder anounces that his atheistic party has brought its anti - religious ideas to church groups, in an effort to destroy "the deep and abiding religious faith," ! which General Eisenhower states i is one of the two bases of the j American system of democracy. Need any more be said? I THE AMERICAN WAY W Mli ill li ilMilfcil I IIMIIIW IIIMM WH ! FANATICAL EISENHOWER ' Ry George r Please don't let the title mislead you. This article is not a censure of General Eisenhower. On the contrary, if you will read on, you will find it- a paean of the highest praise. On December 3, 1946, the CHURCHMAN magazine made its eighth annual award by presenting a bronze plaque to General Dwight D. Eisenhofer, for his promotion of good will and better understanding understand-ing among all people. The general richly deserved this recognition. The CHURCHMAN did well in making this award to the Chief of Staff of Uncle Sam's Army. It has been charged in . some quarters that the CHURCHMAN is rather leftish in its editorial policy; others alege that it leans far over to the left. General Ike, however, in his speech accepting the plaque, left no doubt as to how he stands on sound Americanism. In fact, his remarks would indicate indi-cate that he was well aware of the leftish accusations leveled at the CHURCHMAN, and deliberately deliberate-ly went "all out'' to dispel any suspicion sus-picion he was tarred with any "pinkish" brush. The general described himself as a fantic, "a fanatical devotee of the American system of democracy." democra-cy." He said he believed there J were two fundamental bases of j this system: (1) Adeep arid abid-1 ing religious faith, and (2) that it is a system of freedom, of rights and liberties of the individual, described de-scribed as free enterprise. Without these two fundamentals, he declared there could be no democracy. de-mocracy. Then he voiced his conviction con-viction that no individual, including includ-ing even himself, can be trusted with absolute power, by stating: "I am certain that if you entrust all your afaifrs and your property and your liberties to a bureaucrat in Washington, SUCH AS I AM, I you would not have democracy as I we know it now." ' There may still be some doubt about the sound Americanism of the CHURCHMAN, but General ' Eisenhower has left none regarding regard-ing his. I It was also most refreshing to learn that our greatest general named "a deep and abiding relig- , ious faith" as the first of two bases of our American way. It was especially es-pecially timely because all too many ministers of the gospel have been bitten by the "socialist bug." This statement of General Ike's should : cause all such seriously to consider a return to preaching religious faith as the one and only thing that can regenerate mankind. j By way of contrast, let me 1 quote Karl Marx, the arch apostle of communism: 'The democratic j concept of man is false, because it : is Christian. The democratic con-I con-I cept holds that .... each man : has a value as a sovereign being. This is the illusion, dream and postulate pos-tulate of Christianity, that man has a sovereign soul." .And then I as a further warning to our "Men of the Cloth,'' who seemingly have given up on God as the savior of mankind, please read what Earl Browder, our leading American-born American-born disciple of Marx, has to say Browder brazenly boasts of how his communist party has invaded church groups in America. Writes Browder: "It is significant that the communist com-munist party, more than any other group, has been able to achieve successful united fronts with church groups on the most important import-ant issues of the day. This is not due to any compromise on our part with religion as such. IN GOING AMONG THE RELIGIOUS MASSES MASS-ES WE ARE FOR THE FIRST TIME ABLE TO BRING OUR |
