After Long, Active Career; Funeral Sunday Amasa L. Haymond, 96, Spring-ville's Spring-ville's oldest resident, died Wednesday Wed-nesday at 10:30 a. m., at the family fam-ily residence, 85 West Second South, of ailments incident to his age. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Sunday at 2 p. m., in the Second ward chapel, under direction direc-tion of the bishopric. Born at Des Moines, Iowa, December De-cember 8, 1848, Mr. Haymond came to Utah with his parents, Edward Owen and Margaret Ann Cisell Haymond, crossing the plains by ox-team. They arrived in Salt Lake City in the fall of 1850 and' came to Springville the following April. He has lived here since. At the age of 13 years, Mr. Haymond began his career as a freighter and in company with other freighters, drove his father's four-mule team to Carson City, Nev., and other nearby states. During his later life, he did extensive ex-tensive farming and stock raising and for 45 years operated one of the first threshing machines in this vicinity. An accomplished musician, he played various Instruments in the early day Springville brass band, appearing in many entertainments. entertain-ments. Mr. Haymond was one of the few remaining Black Hawk Indian war veterans in this vicinity. He was reported to be the last member mem-ber of the famous Jesse P. Steele Cavalry company. He married Eliza Bringhurst in the Salt Lake endowment house, May 29, 1871. They celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary anni-versary in 1933, as one of the longest-married couples in the city. Mrs. Haymond died the following fol-lowing year. Survivors include nine sons and daughters, A. L. Haymond, Jr., John C. Haymond and Dr. W. Creed Haymond of Salt Lake City; Frank O. Haymond and Wm. B. Haymond of Magna; Mrs. Louise H. Stoddard and Mrs. Marian H. Willis, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Elam Wagener, Provo; Dorothy Haymond, Springville. Another son, George D. Haymond of Nephi, died in 1938. There are also 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. |
