Show MORE VETERANS SEEK JOBS SAYS U. S. E. S. HEAD "Veterans seeking Jobs and other oth-er veteran assistance at the Provo office of the U. S. Employment Service during January showed steady increase over the previous months," W. L. Mildenhall, manager, man-ager, reports. "Assistance was given to 194 veterans and of this number 63 were directed to jobs, 41 were hired and 34 were directed to other oth-er agencies for assistance. "Other figures for January disclose dis-close that 4,000 persons contacted this office. Of this number 591 were placed on jobs and 31 of those hired were physically handicapped. A considerable number of those contacting the office were applying apply-ing for "statements of availability" availabil-ity" In order to secure essential work elsewhere because construction construc-tion work here had been complete-od. complete-od. Visits continue from males of draft age and some veterans wtih medical discharges have also contacted con-tacted the office seeking information informa-tion about the essentiality of their work In the light of pending "work or fight" legislation. Some discharged dis-charged veterans have Indicated their desire to re-enter service and have contacted the Maritime Service Ser-vice recruiter in order to do so. "In most cases, those advised to seek jobs of more importance to the war effort seldom refuse this suggestion," Mr. Mildenhall said. |
