Show "CANCELLATION OF ' FAIR UPHELD BY COMMISSIONER County Commissioner Reed J. Knudsen declared he did not feel a county fair would be justified as long as it means moving the Central Utah Vocational school out of the fairground buildings while the fair is held. To move the school out temporarily tempor-arily while the fair is he'ld, he said, would cost the school $7000, seriously disrupt its (schedule and subject valuable machinery to weather hazards. Commissioner Knudsen's opinion opin-ion is in opposition to that of his fellow commissioner Sylvan W. Clark, who declared he felt the need for resumption of their fair would justify moving the school out temporarily while it was held. The county fair for this year was cancelled because of the school's occupancy of the buildings, build-ings, as was the fair last year. Commissioner Knudsen, under whose jurisdiction the fair is held, said he felt it would not be worthwhile worth-while to try and hold a 1948 exhibition ex-hibition if the school had to be moved out. If the problem is not solved by then, every effort will be made to secure funds for a permanent site for the school from the 1949 state legislature. School authorities said it would cost them $7000 to move out this year if a fair were held, Mr. Knudsen said. In addition, he pointed out, it would cost an estimated esti-mated $10,000 to put on the fair. "I do not feel the expenditure of this much taxpayers' money is justified under the circumstances," circum-stances," Commissioner Knudsen said. |
