Show Friends Surprise Hardy cXverett On :84th Birthday i CAMP SPRINGVILLE D. U. P. WILL MEET this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Beth Barretti The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2 p. m., and all members are urged o attend. Mrs. Roy Passey of Provo, county coun-ty camp officer, will attend the program and is scheduled to give a talk in addition to the regular entertainment. Hardy Averett, life long resident resi-dent of this city was happily surprised sur-prised by approximately 45 relatives rela-tives and friends Monday night, on celebration of his 84th birthday birth-day anniversary. A variety of games, social conversation con-versation and a delicious luncheon featured the occasion. Mr. Averett was born in Springville Spring-ville on January 5, 1858, a son of Jedethan and Jane Farnsworth Averett. He has lived his entire life in Springville following the occupations of farming, stockrais-ing stockrais-ing and carpenter work. He retired re-tired about eight years ago. He married Elizabeth H. Parry in the endowment house, Salt Lake City, October 4, 1884. Mrs. Averett Aver-ett died about four years ago. Mr. Averett resides with a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elva Averett, in the same home in which he has lived the past 82 years. At the age of 13 years, Mr. Averett began freighting supplies to Utah colonists many trips taking tak-ing him as far as Pioche, Nev. As a lad of 14 years, he also engaged en-gaged in hauling logs from nearby canyons to sawmills in the vicinity. vi-cinity. He recalls with interest the year 1883, when with his brother, John Averett, he was engaged to kill 250 deer in the Pleasant Valley for marketing. He has always been an enthusiatic hunter beginning begin-ning at the age of 10 years, when ' it was his job to secure the family's fam-ily's meat supply with his gun: He states that he has not missed a deer hunting season and never fails to get his deer, with the past year being no exception. He has a son and a daughter living, Tom Averett and Mrs. Will Child, both of Springville; also 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. MR. AND MRS. C. H. CHILDS ENTERTAINED RELATIVES at a delightful party at their home on Friday evening. A variety of games and a delicious luncheon I were diversions. MR. AND MRS. PAUL TRAND-SEN TRAND-SEN GAVE A DINNER at their home on Friday for neighbors. neigh-bors. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Waters, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne J. Stewart and son; of Los Angeles...., Calif, and the host and hostess and son Don. Mrs. Jacob Felix and daughter LaZell spent the holidays in California Cali-fornia with Eileen Felix, who is i on a mission. I |
