Show Devils Play Miners Friday in Last Home Game Lose to Dons Fri.; Win Over Lions Spoils followers of the Springville Spring-ville lied Iievils will get their final home showing of this year's squad Friday niht when the Tintic high Krhool baskfteers from Eureka play the Red Devils on the SHS hardwoods beginning at 8 p.m. The Sophomores will go on display at the usual 6:30 time. Coach Alma Garrett and his Devils had a rough time defeating the Tintic Minors' at Eureka in their first meeting and are anxiously anx-iously awaiting Friday's battle to give the visitors a much tougher battle here. Tintic has one of their best teams and fans should be treated to a real battle between Wall of Eureka, elongated, high-scoring high-scoring Sophomore artist and Sprinprville's own smooth-working Gurry Gabbias. Eureka employs a fast break and a sticky defense which may give the Devils the same kind of trouble it did at Eureka. Eur-eka. The Devils should pull through however. Tons Victors . . . Spanish Fork Dons pulled the sails from under the Red Devils at Spanish Fork to tie up the league race, last Friday night after a hard fought three quarters of basketball that saw the Devils hold an upper hand for the most part. A new added spark in the person of Boot he towering 6 ft 5 inch player added to the Don squad since the semester ended, gave them too much scoring punch in the final quarter as they swept to a 36-48 victory. The game was close until the wanning moments of the third quarter when the Dons pulled out in front 27-31 and continued con-tinued to run up the score through the final quarter. Reid and Hay-mond Hay-mond were Springville's only consistent con-sistent scorers getting 12 each. Jones and Boothe counted the same tally for the winners. Devils Beat Lions . . . In a mid-week contest here Tuesday Tues-day night, the Springville Red Devils were led to a convincing 49-41 victory over the fighting Payson Lions by Garry Gabbitas, who pulled the game out for the Devils with some beautiful hook shots and timely tip-ins to ring up 15 points. Gabbitas is probably the most improved player on the Red Devil aggregation. Payson opened the firing with the first basket and after a hectic first quarter, the Lions were out-in out-in front 9-7. A frenzied second quarter left the Lions still out in front 22-18 despite some beautiful long shots by Duke Reid, who played play-ed a terrific game. Springville was unable to solve the tight defense of the Payson five during the first half but as the second half opened, so likewise, did the Payson defense de-fense open and the Red Devils, behind be-hind the shooting of Haymond, Reid and Gabbitas, took over the lead and was never headed from there on. Groesbeck, who hasn't seen too much action during the season, entered the game for Carter Car-ter in opening moments of the second sec-ond quarter ' and played outstanding outstand-ing ball. He contributed six points and played a good floor game as did Haymond and Thorn. Springville's 1 Red Devil Imps won over the Spanish Forkers by an impressive score and then dropped drop-ped their Tuesday contest to Pay- son 52-62. The Imps should take the smaller Tintic five in Friday's game.
