Show 10,000 Natives in New Picture Playing Locally The largest number of extras used for any picture since "Quo Vadis" were employed by M-G-M for scenes in "Bhowani Junction," filmed in Pakistan in Cinema-Scope, Cinema-Scope, with Ava Gardner and Stewart Granger co-starring. More than 10,000 native Hindus, Moslems and Sikhs were used in crowd scenes at the railroad station sta-tion at Lahore. A government-assigned government-assigned staff of 16 policemen assisted as-sisted Director George Cukor in handling the huge group of extra players in paying them their daily wages. In addition, the crowd called for the building of a special cafetenia in which the extras could be fed in relays. To facilitate their getting get-ting in and out of costume, sixteen dressing rooms were set up, covering cov-ering an entire city block. "Bhowani Junction" is based on the best-seller novel by John Masters, Mas-ters, telling the story of an Anglo-Indian Anglo-Indian girl torn between her love for three men. Pandro S. Berman produced. |
