Show July-National Hot Dog Month Hot dog! That's U.S. slang for unadulterated enthusiasm a burst of joy, a spontaneous cry of delight. It's a catchy phrase that's so common and so American, it's an untranslatable "must" in our national vocabulary. The phrase is, of course, inspired by our unbounded enthusiasm enthus-iasm for the edible of the asme name. For, we Americans have an unappeasable affection and appetite for our nation's food favorite fav-orite the noble hot dog. Statistics say we will eat one billion pounds of them in 1956, thereby gaining enough length in dogs to stretch to the moon and back! and now, the month of July, which has captured top honors in hot dog mileage, has been proclaimed National Hot Dog Month. So munch on, fellow citizens, at ball park, beach, picnics, conventions, con-ventions, circuses, drive-ins, luncheonettes and back yards! Celebration Cele-bration is now in order! The national hunger for the red hot is now official! Joining in the honors will be salutations from the picallili, mustard, must-ard, chili, onion and sauerkraut accessories. But whether you prefer your dog alone on its bun or smothered in zippy relishes, remember you're paying your respects to the most democratic "dish in the entire world. For the hot dog is simple and down-to-earth and economical. It's within the reach and pocketbook of everybody, and it has the taste of America. Let's toast the American Way, the hot dog way. It's a national tradition to be proud of. So pass the mustard. Hot dog! |
