For a number of years he was self-employed, engaging in construction con-struction and maintenance work for one of the larger oil companies. com-panies. "Casey's" youth and early manhood man-hood was spent on one of the large cattle ranches in Wayne County where his father was one of the larger cattle and sheep men of that section. Bown comes very well prepared to accept the new position, having always been very much interested in fish and game matters. He has always been active in wild life federations, and at the present time, is vice-president of the Utah Valley Wildlife Protective Association. Assoc-iation. He has done considerable newspaper writing covering principally prin-cipally outdoor subjects. Two million Wall-eyed pike eggs arrived via plane from Edmonton, Canada yesterday. They were taken tak-en immediately to the Kamas Hat chery for hatching and rearing, according to the Utah Fish and Game Department. Careful studies concerning this fish have been made by the Fish and Game Department and the Commission feels that it will supplement sup-plement our game fish varieties particularly in waters of greatly varied temperatures and bioligical conditions. Along with these studies, contacts con-tacts have been made with the sportsman's groups in localities where it is presently determined to make plants of this fish. These first plants will be in Echo Reservoir Res-ervoir at Coalville, Pine View Reservoir Res-ervoir in Ogden Canyon, and a water yet to be selected in the Sevier River drainage. The Wall-eyed pike is an excellent ex-cellent food fish, a top game fish, and under proper food and water conditions will attain a weight of: ten to twenty pounds. Eggs Taken ... This office received this morning morn-ing reports from the stripping stations sta-tions at Strawberry Reservoir last Friday, May 18th, at the spillway station on the south end of the lake 160,720 rainbow eggs were taken. At the Strawberry Clyde Creek station on the north end of the lake, 62,220 native eggs were taken. The Department feels it is worthy wor-thy of note that presently all rainbow eggs being taken are at the spillway station, while all native na-tive eggs are being taken at the Strawberry Clyde Creek station. The take of rainbow eggs at, Strawberry so far this year exceeds ex-ceeds that of any previous year. If the present outlook continues, this year will rate as one of the highest in the take of eggs from Strawberry Reservoir. At the special session of the Utah Fish and Game Commission held Saturday May 19th, the opening op-ening of pheasant season was set for Saturday noon, November 3rd. This early announcement of the opening date was set as a convenience con-venience to the planning of participating par-ticipating sportsmen as well as to expedite its release in national publications. At a later date the limit and season duration of the Commission will announce bag pheasant hunt. |
