Show "Utah Spends More On Education Than Other States Utah spends relatively more for higher education than does any other state in the nation. Last year state expenditures for higher education ed-ucation in Utah totaled $16.5 million. mil-lion. This amount was equal to slightly less than 1.5 of the total to-tal personal income of the state during the previous year. Nationally, Nation-ally, state government expenditures expendi-tures for higher education were equal to 0.5 of all personal income. in-come. Thus, based upon personal income payments, Utah's delative expenditure for higher education is nearly three times that of the nation na-tion as a whole. No other state tops Utah in the proportion of per- i sonal income devoted to higher ed- I ucation. When state expenditures for higher education are divided by the total population of the state, Utah is again found to be leading the nation in this regard. Last year expenditures for higher education in Utah equaled $21.67 per capita, compared with an average per capita cap-ita expenditure of $9.15 for the rest of the nation. State money for the support of higher education in Utah has nearly near-ly doubled during the last eight 1 years. The 1955 Legislature appro- i priations for higher education of $13.2 million in 1953, $11.8 million in 1951, $9.8 million in 1949, and $8.4 million in 1947. These amounts do not include appropriations for building purposes. |
