Show Unemployment In Springville Is At High Peak Over $6,000 was brought into Springville City last week through the State employment service and its unemploj'ment insurance payments. pay-ments. Two hundred forty experienced exper-ienced men and women workers applied for unemployment insurance insur-ance benefits last week as seasonal unemployment continued to mount. Nearly 84 of the recipients were men and 16 women. These payments to insured workers work-ers help maintain the purchasing power of the community in times of slack periods of work and thus have a stabilizing effecty upon the economy of the area. Without such payments during slack periods, reduced purchasing power would cause a decline in demand de-mand for goods which in turn would result in still greater levels of unemployment, particularly in the consumer goods industries of retail trade and personal services, according to Mr. Coleman, Employment Em-ployment Security representative. The age breakdown of the experienced ex-perienced labor supply in Springs ville showrs one under 18 years; 61 in the 18 to 25 year bracket; 116, 26 to 45 years; 53, 46 to 64 years, and 9 over 65 years of age. There were 57 unskilled laborers, 67 skilled laborers, 74 semi-skill-" ed laborers, 21 clerical and sales workers, 11 workers in the service occupations, one agricultural worker, and 9 professional and managerial workers receiving benefits ben-efits last week. Nine of the recipients recip-ients were Korean veterans, while 10 were drawing benefits from states other than Utah. |
