Show Springville LDS Stake ISets First Conference 7 Elder Clifford E. Young to Attend 9 Sessions Planned Saturday, Sunday First quarterly conference of the new ,; Springville Stake is announced ' for Saturday PJ evening and Sunday at the Stake House, with Elder Clifford E. Young, assistant assis-tant to the Council of Twelve Apostles, representing the general gen-eral authorities. General sessions of the conference con-ference are planned for 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m., Sunday with the MIA in charge of the concluding conclud-ing meeting in the evening beginning be-ginning at 7 p.m. General Sessions The conference begins Saturday Satur-day evening with a Priesthood Leadership meeting at 6:30 p.m. to which stake presidency and clerks, high council members, mem-bers, Stake Senior Aaronic Priesthood committee, Melchi-zedek Melchi-zedek Priesthood quorum presidencies pres-idencies and secretaries, High Priest group leaders, Senior Aaronic Priesthood quorum presidency, and bishoprics and clerks, are to be present. A meeting is arranged for 8 p.m. and the people who are to be in attendance at this meeting, meet-ing, have received a special invitation. in-vitation. Elder Young is noted for his inspirational talks and advise which has particular appeal to both adult and younger members mem-bers of the church. It is expected that the general gen-eral conference sessions will be well attended and an invitation invita-tion is given all members of the stake and others interested, to be present. G. Byron Done of the BYU is the speaker scheduled for the MIA session to talk on the book, "Jesus the Christ" which is on the MIA reading course this year. The meeting is being arranged ar-ranged by Stake Supt. Lawrence Lawr-ence Lynn and President Marie Whiting. August for a week's orienta-. orienta-. tion with all expenses paid. The Danforth grants, made annually, were set up by the . owner of Purina Feed Co. of . the U.S. to further study by I music teachers. A college may submit one , application for every 3000 stu-t stu-t dents and Mr. Weight's name , was one of three submitted by the BYU. The entries were sifted sift-ed down from 500 to 150 throughout the country and then representatives of the foundation personally interviewed inter-viewed the 150 making the selection se-lection for the final 57 to receive re-ceive the grant. Newell, whose parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Weight, received his Masters degree from the BYU in 1946 and subsequently taught music in Arizona three years; also five years in the public schools of Utah and two years at Dixie Junior College before going to the BYU eight years ago. He is presently assistant professor of music and director of the BYU a'cappella choir. |
