Show Speech Specialist Vins National ' Acclaim on Coast In a Long Eeach. Calif., newspaper news-paper recently, the following article arti-cle concerning Mrs. Verna Allan Breinholt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allan of this city appeared, ap-peared, telling in part of the fine work a former Springville woman is doing on the coast: Scintillating, ornamental Vema Ereinholt looks like a successful actress (which she is) and an intriguing writer (which she also is). A nationally-recognized specialist spec-ialist in speech correction and speech re-education in children, she is the instructor in -the Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon class, Guiding Speech in Children, here at State college. "Good Speech for Gary," a documentary docu-mentary film for elementary education edu-cation written by Mrs. Breinholt, last year was produced in co-operation with the departments of cinema and speech at USC. Dr. Lester Beck, director of the highly regarded film, "Human Growth," helped with the production. Mrs. Breinholt, who is slim and personable with pixie brown eyes, evinces none of the seriousness and consistence of purpose which brought her to her status in the field of speech therapy. Her goal, for which she is patently gifted, was dramatics when she enrolled at USC after her graduation from Brigham Young university. The challenge of helping children to better speech diverted her to the USC school of speech, where she is now working on her doctorate. Besides her teaching at State, Mrs. Breinholt is consultant in speech education for the Orange County schools and also has a class at Whittier College. She is soon to be affiliated with a neuropsychiatry neuro-psychiatry clinic in Santa Ana as speech consultant. Two articles written by Mrs. Breinholt, one on "Speech for Gary" and one on speech programs in elementary education, will appear ap-pear in the May issue of the California Cali-fornia Journal of Elementary Education. Edu-cation. Another article on the film will appear in the May issue of the audio-visual magazine, "Educational "Educa-tional Screen." This piquant instructor is president presi-dent of the California Speech Therapy Ther-apy association, drama chairman of the Orange County chapter of the Association of University Women, Wo-men, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary women teachers' sorority. l Mother of a daughter who is majoring in music at SC, Mrs. Breinholt needs only her writing as a hobby, so compelling is her" interest in her profession. |
