Show Music Club Hears Story Of Music The story of music and its growth grow-th from primitive stages through the early Christian era was given at a meeting of Springville Federated Fed-erated Music club women by Al-zada Al-zada Wilmott. With the aid of recordings, Miss Wilmott described the contributions con-tributions to music which were made by primitive man, the Chinese, Chi-nese, the Hindus, Egyptians, Hebrews, He-brews, Greeks, and Romans. According to Miss Wilmott, primitive man believed music to be a gift from the gods and accordingly ac-cordingly used it in religious rituals rit-uals to praise their deities. First music, according to legends, leg-ends, was an imitation of the sounds of nature as interpreted by man. Progenitors of the modern violin, vio-lin, said Miss Wilmott, were the Hindu harps, lyres, and flutes whose melodious music was the foundation of dramatic and religious re-ligious festivals as early as 3000 B. C. Much of our modern music, she said stems back to the highly developed de-veloped Egyptian and Hebrew compositions most of which were used to praise Jehovah. In conclusion, Miss Wilmott stated that much of music development de-velopment can be attributed to the monks and the Catholic church. The home of Mrs. LeRoy Erick-son Erick-son was scene of the meeting and Mrs. F. C. Packard, president presided. pre-sided. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeting. |
