Show Primary Penny Appeal Begins Soon; Aids Crippled Childrens' Hospital The annual Primary Penny Appeal, during which one penny is asked for every birthday of every member of each family, will take place from February Febru-ary 7 to February 14, and during that time Primary workers will call at the various homes. They ask that everyone have their pennies ready. A penny a year seems a small amount but it does a big job, according ac-cording to a report from Primary officers and others connected with Childrens Hospital in Salt Lake City. Since 1911, when Primary children child-ren began giving a penny for each of their birthdays to the Primary Children's Hospital over 3000 crippled boys and girls from all ' over the USA have been restored to happy, healthy, normal living which would otherwise have been denied them. When grown-up friends of the children asked if they might help too, the Birthday Penney Appeal was initiated. The hospital is a happy place, for there is school every afternoon after-noon taught by teachers appointed by the Board of Education. There are parties, shows, clubs and even a tiny school paper edited by the children which contains news of all the little patients, their progress pro-gress and their doings. The idea of Primary children helping crippled children was conceived con-ceived in 1911 by Mrs. Louk B. Felt and Miss May Anderson. Patients Pa-tients were first put in the LDS hospital. In 1922, under the leadership lead-ership of President Heber J. Grant the LDS church provided, remodeled remod-eled an enlarged a fine old home to house the children. Now under construction Is a beautiful large and completely modern new hospital hos-pital which will care ..for many more little patients. |
