Show Boy Scout Week Theme Announced ... 5 which began last year and will be1 I concluded by the Boy Scouts of America this year, Dr. Jones said. "Strengthen Liberty" will be the theme of the annual Boy Scout Week February 5-12, according to Dr. J. G. Jones of Provo, president of the Utah National Parks Council, Coun-cil, which covers central and southern Utah and the northern part of Arizona. ' Marking the 40th ' anniversary of Scouting in America, the week 5, will be replete with activities spotlighting the importance of the Boy Scout movement. Dr. Jones said at least three major ma-jor activities are recommended for the week: A special church program on Scout Sunday, February 5. ' A troop roundup or birthday I party in connection with the regular regu-lar Scout Meeting that week. Parents, Par-ents, members of the Primary guides class, or other special guests should be invited. A service project on an institutional institu-tional or community basis, such as shoveling snow away from fire hydrants hy-drants or from church steps. The theme of the week is taken from the two-year project to "strengthen the arm of liberty" Special evening programs are planned by all w a r d s of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints on February 5, and other churches also are arranging a special observance. Kirkham,' Y M M I A Scout Executive, has recommended recommend-ed the following program for the LDS wards: Opening song "Battle Hymn of the Republic;" presentation presenta-tion of colors, senior patrol leader; invocation, scout or explorer; scout song that everyone knows; greetings by MIA superintendent, 5 minutes; "What it Means to be an Explorer," explorer, 5 minutes; two-minute talks by scout or explorer ex-plorer on "The Scout Oath," "Duty to God," and "Duty to Self;" musical mu-sical numbers, scout, explorer, or Aaronic priesthood chorus; "Scouting "Scout-ing and My Boy," a mother, 5 minutes; "Scouting and My Boy," a father, 5 minutes ; Strengthen Liberty," stake, council or other qualified Scouter, 10 or 15 minutes; min-utes; musical number by Scouts 'or Explorers; repeat Scout Oath, Scouts, Explorers, Scouters, and former members; benediction, Scout or Explorer. |
