Show Traffic Deaths Reduced in Utah; Still Too Many CHICAGO, July 30 iV.P.) Motor vehicle deaths in the United States were reduced 2.4 per cent during the first six months of the year, but the toll is still so heavy that three persons meet violent death on the highways each hour. Lives lost totaled 15,050 from Jan. 1, 1935 to July 1, the survey of the National Safety council issued today said, 370 less than for the same period a year ago. Estimates for the entire year place the total at 35,600. North Dakota, with a reduction of 43 per cent, led the 48 states in cutting highway deaths, while I Rhode Island, which reported a decrease of 29 per cent, was second. sec-ond. Other states reporting large reductions were Florida, Idaho Illinois, Iowa, Massachuscttes Missouri, Oregon and Utah. |
