Show lk Lunches to Be Served School Children The project of serving a hot lunch - to Springville school children chil-dren under the direction of the P.-T.A., will begin Monday noon, announces President Gladys Boyer Boy-er of the P.-T.A. council. The hot dish will be served to all grade schools and at the high school. While the project was initiated initi-ated chiefly for children who live some distance from school and are required to bring sandwiches sand-wiches or other cold food, all children are welcome. A nom- inal price is charged and the j children this year do not have to purchase dishes. It is desired that parents of children w'no desire to be served the hot dish at noon, remind the children to notify their teachers so that an estimate of the amount of food needed can be determined before Monday. The W. P. A., under direction of the P.-T.A., has during the summer canned an enormous amount of vegetables to be used for the winter lunches. Many farmers have contributed produce to the canning center and 'have been given credit to apply on their children's lunches. Other children will pay the nominal fee, which covers only the cost of the vegetables used. The P.-TA. has been to no expense in initiating the project. To give patrons an idea of the amount of food canned for use in the children's hot dis'hes ' during the winter, President Boyer Wednesday submitted the following amounts canned by the VVPA during the summer: String beans, 103 cans; beets, , 200 cans; apples, 206 cans; apri- i cots, 395 cans; peaches, 276 cans; coin, 466 cans ; peas, 64 cans ; cherries, 38 cans; tomatoes, 583 cans; tomato juice, 879 cans. |
