Show Crandall and Miss Alice Childs. A delicious luncheon served by the hostess early in the evening was enjoyed by 10 club members and guests. The previous meeting of the club was with Mrs. Norma Noe. Prizes for the bridge games went to Mrs. Birdie Thorpe a guest and to Mrs. Madge Crandall, member. Others present were Mrs. Helen Robbins, Mrs. Hortense Hanvard, Mrs. Leona Allen, Mrs. Alice Ence, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. Coe Straw, Mrs. Dolly Smith, Mrs. . Viola Smith, Mrs. Naomi Beardall, Mrs. Margaret Zabriskie, the latter two 'being guests. Plana are being made by committees com-mittees of the American Legion auxiliary, headed by President Emma Gardner, to entertain at a testimonial in the form of a social for members of the auxiliary chorus chor-us and their' director Guy Brown. The party will be held in place of the regular meeting and will be at 8 p. m., Wednesday, July 13, at Memorial hall. Preceeding the party a short business session will be held for the election of officers and other urgent business- Three hundred relatives and friends attended the wedding reception re-ception in the First ward hall Wednesday evening, given by Mr. and Mrs. Siles E. Hutchings of this city for their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and M.rs. Wendell Wen-dell Jones (Dora Hutchings) . The young couple were married in the Manli temple on Tuesday. Guests at the reception were received by the bride and groom and their parents, also Miss Leslie Loveridge of this city as maid of honor; the Misses Alene and Thclma Pierce of Provo, nieces of the bride, bridesmaids and Bryant Hutchings, brother of the groom. The bride wore a beautiful gown of white marquisette over satin and a wreath of pink rosebuds in her hair. She carried pink roses. The maid of honor was in white lace and the bridesmaids in pink silk chiffon over satin. .Dancing furnished the major entertainment, en-tertainment, together with refreshments. re-freshments. The bride and' groom will leave about July 11 on a wedding trip through southern Utah and plan to make their home in Provo upon their return. Mrs. Amos Brown of Los Angeles, An-geles, Calif., spent a few days of this week with relatives and friends here. She was the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bird and son, Jim, have returned to Elko, Nevada, after two days visit with relatives and friends here. Jim has spent the past six weeks with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bird. ; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Olsen spent 1 a few days of this week with their son, Ben, who is attending mis- sionary school in Salt Lake City, prior to leaving on a mission to Canada. Mrs. Harold Johnson and son, Dick, of Cedar City, are spending this week with the former's mother, Mrs. Rheuamia Weight, and other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dalby and three children of Oakland, Calif., arrived here Saturday. Mrs. Dalby Dal-by will spend the summer with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sumsion. Mr. Dalby returned Sunday. Mrs. Dalby was formerly Miss Leona Sumsion. Mrs. Arvil Bird spent the early part of the week in Ogden with relatives and friends. In honor of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Holt, who were married last week, a wedding reception was given by the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Butler, on Wednesday Wed-nesday evening, at the Fourth ward hall. Mrs. Holt was the former Thelma Butler. Approximately Approxi-mately 200 relatives and friends attended. The bride wore an elaborate white chiffon gown over satin, with a white lace veil and pearl tierra. Her bouquet was of sweetheart sweet-heart roses and white carnations. The bridal march began at 9 p. m., and was led by little Miss Ann Patrick and her partner, Jay Butler, who scattered rose petals along the path. Miss Grace Butler was maid of honor and wore a beautiful gown of pink chiffon. Mrs. O. J. Ford of Salt Lake City, matron of honor, wore orchid and Miss Mildred Butler and Miss Louise Patrick, bridesmaids, wore blue and peach chiffon gowns, respectively. Lloyd Holt was test man and others of the bridal party were Ben Bartholomew, O.J. Ford of Salt Lake City, and Frank Butler. Following the bridal march was the bridal waltz. Later, all enjoyed en-joyed dancing and refreshments. The couple were recipients of many lovely and useful gifts. They plan to make their home in salt Lake City. Miss Cleo Pierce of this city, librarian and instructor at the Pengree school of Ogden, has just returned from a three weeks' boSk clinic conducted at the Utah Agricultural Agri-cultural college, Logan, by Ann Carroll Moore. Miss Moore, superintendent su-perintendent of the children's libraries li-braries of New York City, is internationally in-ternationally known and an expert ex-pert on children's reading. She presented many new books just off the press, as a centennial gift to the college library, established under her name. I Miss Pierce reports the clinic I well attended daily by large groups interested in children's books and readings. Each day. camping on Boulder mountain, and returned by way of Bryce's and Zioa's canyons. . Mr. and Mrs. Peter Forsyth and son Richard of Chinook, Mont., have spent the pasl week with friends in Springville. They were guests of Mr. and Mi's. A.M. Lyall and huve also been extensively exten-sively entertained by other friends during their stay. They were accompanied ac-companied on their return by their daughter, Margaret Forsyth, of Provo, who will spend her vacation vaca-tion with them in Montana. Miss Gertrude Ann Welch, Miss Mary Louise Wingate and David Welch spent several days of the Mr. and Mrs. Harold Christen-sen Christen-sen and Mrs and Mrs. G. Lowry Anderson spent the past week in California. Mrs. Christensen and Mr. Anderson went as delegates from the local Kiwanis club to the international Kiwanis convention conven-tion at San Francisco. The couples plan to visit other interesting inter-esting places along the coast. Mrs. Ed Johnson was hostess to members of the S. T. club at her home Thursday night. Following Fol-lowing a delicious luncheon served at small tables, contract bridge was played. Prizes were won by Hugh Baxter, Mrs. Lee Sumsion Sum-sion and Mrs. Will Brown. The party, was enjoyed by twelve club members present. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson and Mrs. Ann Johnson were in Salt Lake City Friday, to visit the latter's husband and G. S. Johnson John-son who is convalescing from a major operation at the Veteran's hospital. The high school class of 1938 are planning a reunion in the form of a canyon party to be held Friday, July 10. All those desiring de-siring to attend will meet at the high school at a time to be announced an-nounced later. Guests attending were Mrs.; Bliss Miss Moore presented old and new favorites. Among the old, Walter de Ware's "Cinderella," won highest high-est praise and among the new, the stories of Eleanore Fargeon's "Wootin Pippin," in the Daisy Field,"' was acclaimed delightful reading for old and young. Two new picture books, "To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," by Dr. Swess, and "Andy and the Lion," by James Dougherty, Dough-erty, were reviewed most en-thusitically. en-thusitically. At the close of the clinic, Miss Moore presented Nicholes, the strange little boy hero of her book, "Nicholas and the Golden Goose." gene Dalton who was visiting here from Atlantic City, New Jersey, Jer-sey, his sister, Mrs. M. F. Miner entertained at a lively arranged family dinner at their home on , Thursday afternoon. Covers were laid for Bishop and Mrs. Frank Jensen and family of Mapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wright and baby of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Miner, the guest of honor , and the host and hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rowland past week in Salt Lake City, where they attended a convention conven-tion of the Christian Endeavor of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Veraa Allan Breln'holt of Hollywood, Calif., is in Springville Spring-ville visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allan. Mrs. Brein-holt Brein-holt spent the past year studying drama and radio dramatics at the Los Angeles City college. She was a prominent member of the Broadcasting Broad-casting Guild, and during the winter win-ter appeared on weekly programs from the Educational Broadcast laboratory, , released through the facilities of1 KFAC and KHJ. She plans to attend summer school at Aspen Grove," studying under the tutelage of Mrs. Kath-yyn Kath-yyn B. Pardoe. Among her most outstanding achievements last year was a thesis on the "Plays of Eugene O'Neill,' winch was hound and placed in. the private library of the Plays and Players club for a reference. Y. U. in pursuit of a master's mas-ter's degree. She is a member of the Theta Alpha Phi, national dramatic fraternity, and is well known here, for her dramatic interpretations. Members of the Busy Finger club met Thursday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Olea Sargent. A delfcious pot luck luncheon together to-gether with sewing was enjoyed by the following, Mrs. Marjorie Bird, Mrs. Doris Bird, Mrs. Delia Dallin, Mrs. Marie Cranmer, Mrs-Olive Mrs-Olive Porter, Mrs. LaVern Beardall, Bear-dall, Mrs. Velma Roylance, Mrs. Stauney Hansen, and the hostess. A large number of Springville relatives and friends went to Heber City Saturday afternoon, to attend funeral services for Kay Harrison, 14 year-old son of Walt and Lavada Thorn Harrison, who died Thursday night. Mrs. Joseph Allen has just returned re-turned from a delightful two weeks' vacation on the Pacific coast. While in Hollywood, she was entertained by Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Breinholt and Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Brooks. Upon her return, she visited relatives and friends in St. George for a few days and was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pace and family. Mrs. E. S. Groesbeck and children chil-dren have spent the past ten days with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cowley and family fam-ily and other relatives and friends in Logan. Mrs. Faye Cranmer entertained members of the Fidelity Bridge club at her home Friday evening. A delicious luncheon was served at two small tables to seven club members and Mrs. Bernice Cranmer Cran-mer and Mrs. Joe Briers of Salt Lake City, as special guests. Bridge followed with Mrs. Rose Roylance and Mrs. Floss Cates winning first and second high pi'izes. The next meeting of the club will be a no-hostess party Friday afternoon, July 15, at Balsam park. - Mr. and Mrs. Milton Harrison I and Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Con-over Con-over spent the past week on a vacation trip to southern Utah.
