Show Mapleton Busy at Picking Cherries MAPLETON Cherry picking in this vicinity and Mapleton bench is at its peak this week, growers report, and the harvest slightly above normal and the quality good. Most of the larger growers are picking and packing the fruit to be shipped outside the state while a num'ber are selling to nearby canneries and local truckers. The harvest is furnishing employment em-ployment to nearly 300, girls, boys and women, the latter doing most of the packing, growers estimated. Among the larger orchards are those of A. W. Cherrington, Joseph Jo-seph Carnesecca, Mrs. H. G. Thorpe, W.' W. Clyde and J. W. Grant. Six Presidents of the United States were of Scotch-Irish parentage. |
