Show VICE TRI AL IS NEARLY OVER SALT LAKH CITY. April 25 (I'.R) Defense counsel in the vice conspiracy trial of three former high city officials and an attorney prepared today to subm, motions for directed verdicts of acquittal. The motions will probably be submitted tomorrow. If denied the cases of ex-mnyor E. B. Erwin former police chief Harry L. Fi-nch, ex-police captain Frank A. Thack-er Thack-er and Attorney R. O. Peace, will probably go t o the jury Thursday. Thurs-day. District Judfifi Oscar W. Mc-Conkie Mc-Conkie recessed the morning session ses-sion todav after defense and prosecution prose-cution attorneys indicated presen-I presen-I tation of evidence could be completed com-pleted during the afternoon. The defense opened the afternoon session ses-sion by calling its last witnesses to the stand. Thacker, last important defense witness, testified yesterday. The four defendants are charge'! in a misdemeanor complaint with conspiracy to permit vice establishments estab-lishments to operate in this city in 1936 and 1937 and accepting "protection" money. |
