Show M. LA. GROUPS END CONTESTS Winners Determined as Eitfht Stakes Compete For Final Honors. Members of the Mutual Improvement Improve-ment associations of eight stakes completed the contest work of the season, Tuesday night, with the annual an-nual dance contest, the final event held at the Ladies' gymnasium. Miss Bessie Collins and Irel Hart of the Provo Third ward were adjudged ad-judged the winners of the contest, with Ferron Sager and Dezzie Wilde of the Alpine stake, second. Sixteen couples, the cream of the dancing talent from the eight stakes, competed for honors. Results Given The results of the other contests held are as follows: Retold story, Vanguards, Keith Warnick, Manila ward, Timpanogos stake, first; Leo Rowley, Timpanogos ward of the Sharon stake, second; Junior girls Theressa Anderson, Second ward, Utah stake, first; Viola Madsen. Lake View ward, Sharon stake, second. Public speaking "M" men, Reed Bradford, Palmyra stake, first; Ben Clark, Alpine stake, second; Gleaner girls, Ada Jorgensen, Lake View ward, Sharon stake, first; Doris Huff, Palmyra stake, second. Drama Provo First ward, "The Florist Shop," first with the following fol-lowing cast: Fay White, Kenneth Craven, Ruth Brown, Searlet Johnson, John-son, Orrin Jackson; directors, Mrs. Lloyd Oaks and Mrs. Heber Done. Springville Fourth ward, Kolob stake, second ; same play. Cast: Seymour Mendenhall, Mark Whiting, Whit-ing, Frank Salisbury, Margaret Bird and Donna Salisbury, coach. Music Male chorus and mixed chorus Provo Fourth ward, Utah stake, with Mrs. Lynn Taylor, director; di-rector; ladies' chorus, Provo Fifth ward, Ellis Doty director. Board Members Judge The judges, all members of the general "M, I. A. board, were Rachel Grant Taylor, Don C. Woods and Elsie Hogan, retold story; W. O. Robinson, Vida Clawson and Joseph Jo-seph Fielding Smith, Jr., drama; Dr. Herbert Maw and Clara Stewart Stew-art Boyer, speech; W. O. Robinson and Ethel Anderson, dancing. Awards, consisting of suitable pins with the M. I. A. insignia, were presented to the winders at the close of the dance contest. The best performers from each of the three main divisions of the stakes of the church will be invited to compete in the grand finals at the M. I. A. June conference, except ex-cept in dancing, in which case the winning couples from each of the 17 districts will compete in the dance finals at Saltair. |
